Our Story
Herd’s was established here on Rosemount Place back in 1947, becoming an incorporated company in 1948, and staying in the Herd’s family for three generations. Our owner, Gordon, bought the shop in 20** very much as a going concern, and many of the staff remained for years to come.
In the olden days, meat was not an everyday thing for most families, but more of an occasional treat or for the much-loved Sunday dinner, and then stews and soups from leftovers.
In the modern world, many people want meat every day, but have perhaps fallen into the convenience of supermarket shopping and buying intensively-farmed, pre-packaged meat – which can often be bland, tasteless or tough.

We pride ourselves on our traditional butchery and the excellent quality of our produce. Our fresh meats are British if not Scottish and either come from Gordon’s own farm, elsewhere in Aberdeenshire, and other chosen UK suppliers. Over the years we have trained many young apprentices, several of whom have gone on to join the team on a permanent basis.
We have a wonderful deli counter, shelves stacked with all kinds of essential groceries (and goodies) and lots of items for a well-stocked larder. Our in-house baker makes not only amazing Rowies and pies, but all manner of traybakes and sweet treats. There truly is something at Herd’s for everyone.
We like to be informative about the foods we sell, so ingredient and allergen information is clearly displayed, and any of our staff will be happy to help if you have any particular dietary requirements.
At Herd’s you are guaranteed service with a smile, and probably a bit of chat and banter as well.
